France is a very varied country. It stretches from the English Channel to the Mediterranean and the climate in the South is very different from that in the North.
 
•  France covers an area approximately 547,000 square kilometres, and a population of approximately 56 million people.
•  ‘F’ on the back of a car tells you it's from France.
•  The capital city is Paris. Important monuments include La Tour Eiffel, Nôtre Dame and Le Louvre.
•  Other important towns include Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux and Strasbourg.
•  The highest mountain is Mont Blanc which is 4,807 metres and is in "les Alpes". Other mountains are les Pyrénées, le Jura and le Massif Central.
•  The longest River is La Loire 1,020 km. Other rivers are La Seine, Le Rhône, La Garonne, and La Dordogne.
•  France is roughly hexagonal – it has six sides. It is bordered by The English Channel (La Manche), the Atlantic Ocean (l'océan Atlantique), Spain (L'Espagne), the Mediterranean Sea, Italy (L'Italie), Switzerland (La Suisse), Germany (L'Allemagne), Luxemburg (Le Luxembourg), and Belgium (La Belgique).
