The money in Spain used to be pesetas. Now it is Euros as in much of the rest of Europe.

There are supermarkets (el supermercado, el
hipermercado) in Spain as everywhere. However,
there are also department stores and small shops.
Department stores and supermarkets are the same as in Britain but the smaller shops tend to be more varied. El Corte Ingles is a famous chain. There is often a market (el mercado).

The opening times are dependent on the fact that it is very hot in the summer and so people rest in the middle of the day and come out at night. Shops might open from 9.30 to 1.30 then close till 4 and stay open until late.
